Sophia Gomez, Founder and Research Director at Public Values Research, has 18 years’ experience helping nonprofit organizations develop effective communication strategies. Sophia brings formal training in social research and her previous experience as a newspaper reporter to her work as a consultant, ensuring that data are both reliable and useful for building communication strategy. In addition to working with nonprofits to define their brands and increase membership, Sophia has helped develop and evaluate local and statewide social marketing campaigns, including programs to promote sustainable environmental practices, reduce underage drinking, and promote better health and nutrition. Previous clients include UCLA, Kaiser Permanente, L.A. Care, Habitat for Humanity, and the California Endowment, among other organizations.

Prior to launching Public Values Research, Sophia worked as a senior partner at a Los Angeles-based management consulting firm, recognized by Los Angeles Business Journal as one of the top women-owned businesses. Sophia has a Master’s Degree from UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, with an emphasis in social research methodology. She is a member of the Marketing Research Association (MRA) and the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR). Sophia is also a founding member of AAPOR’s Transparency Initiative, which requires research organizations to disclose details of their data collection process, adhering to the highest standards for transparency and accuracy.
